How to get to Saarbrücken

SCN - Saarbrücken-Ensheim airport is located approximately 15 km from Saarbrücken city centre. There are scheduled flights to Berlin, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Luxembourg. From the airport you can take a taxi to Saarbrücken. The travel time is about 20 minutes and the price should be about 25 Euro. You can take the bus as well which usually takes about 30 minutes and costs 2.40EUR. Take line R10 to the center (about one bus per hour). For exact times use the VGS Route Planner.

Other airports in the greater region:

  • FRA - Frankfurt: 170 km. This is the main international hub, well-connected to the extensive national rail service.There are direct trains from/to Saarbrücken, 150 min travel time. Indirect train travel via Mannheim is sometimes faster.
  • LUX - Luxembourg: 100 km. Bus shuttles from/to Saarbrücken Central Station.
  • HHN - Hahn (Ryanair hub, called Frankfurt/Hahn by them): 110 km. Bus shuttles from/to Saarbrücken Central Station or Idar-Oberstein train station.
  • ZQW - Zweibrücken: 50 km. Bus shuttles from/to Saarbrücken Central Station.
  • CDG - Paris: 400 km. Seems a bit far, but can actually be close, due to the 110 minutes travel time between Gare Paris-Est and  Saarbrücken Central Station on high-speed trains.

Book a train to Saarbrücken Central Station (Hauptbahnhof). The main train routes are:

 
  • From the north via Koblenz/Trier.
  • From the east (Frankfurt, Munich) via Mannheim.
  • From the east (Frankfurt, Mainz) via Idar-Oberstein.
  • From the west (Paris) via Metz.
  • From the south via Strasbourg.
