HOW TO REACH THE CONFERENCE PLACES

Warning: you will receive a copy of these instructions together with the other Etaps documentation.
However, in the printed version there is a small imprecision that we have corrected in this document (see weekly ticket section).

MEETING POINTS

We have devised three meeting points (shown on the black-and-white map in your bag and called MP-DISI1, MP-DISI2, and MP-MAIN) as locations

to which it is easy to arrive by public transportation (or on foot)
from which it is a short walk to either DISI for Satellite Events or Teatro della Tosse for the Main Conferences

On three crucial days (the first day of the main conferences and the most crowded days for satellite events) there will be people from the organization at the meeting point waiting for gathering participants and leading them at the given time. Apart, in separate sheets, you find the information on how to reach the event locations from the meeting point and the meeting points from the various hotels.

Meeting points to DISI for Satellite Events

MP-DISI1

At the intersection of Corso Gastaldi/Corso Europa and Via Papigliano. Arriving by buses n. 17 (and 17/) , few meters from the bus stop, on the same side of the road, just in front of the Blockbuster Megastore

MP-DISI2

At the intersection of Via S. Martino and Via Papigliano, just 50 meters away from MP-DISI1.
Arriving by buses 44, 45, 85, 86, 87 and 18 (NOT 18/), the 2nd bus stop in Via San Martino (keyword /written word to show: Papigliano)

Meeting point to the Main Conferences

MP-MAIN

At the end of Via XX Settembre and at the corner of Piazza de Ferrari. It is also the intersection with Via Vernazza (the name of Via E. Vernazza is shown on the wall in front of the bus stop).
This meeting point is on the right side looking towards Piazza de Ferrari (near Cinema Verdi).

Arriving on foot from many hotels, by the many buses along Via XX Settembre to Piazza De Ferrari and the buses coming from Principe Station (stopping in Via Vernazza right in front of the meeting point).

HOW TO REACH THE MAIN CONFERENCE FROM YOUR HOTEL

With the exception of the hotels near to Via XX Settembre, you have to take a bus.
Note:

The single bus ticket you have in your bag is valid for:

buses and trains in the town (including Pegli);
it is valid for 1h 30m, and, in that period, for any number of bus trips, but just one train trip

It has to be validated at the small yellow/orange machine at the beginning of the trip:

on the bus at the end marked "Convalida sui mezzi AMT"
or at the train stationat the end marked "Convalida per viaggio FS".

If you use first a bus and then a train with the same ticket, then you have to validate the ticket again at the train station.
The weekly ticket (valid from Monday 2 to Sunday8) is valid permanently in the week; you have to write your names (name and surname) and the current date in its back, and you have to validate it, right before using it the first time. Note: there is a change with respect to the information contained in the instruction in your bag: the ticket must be validated.
if you are a registered Main Conferences participant, at the registration desk you will be given a coupon for getting a weekly ticket.

ASK the porter of your hotel how much time it needs to arrive at the meeting points; it depends a lot on the time.

From the Meeting point MP-MAIN

Cross Via XX Settembre at the traffic light in front of the meeting point; continue straight under the porch and then cross Via Dante at the following traffic light; you are in Via Petrarca which you have to follow until the end, where you cross the street and go to your right until the intersection of Via Pollaioli on your left, where you turn left straight down.
Continue straight on until you reach a small square with a church (San Donato) on your left-hand side; follow the church external walls (on the left) and take the climbing street (Stradone Sant'Agostino) that is the only (reasonable) way out.
Keep going straight on until on your left-hand side there is a square with a church on the opposite side (Sant'Agostino). The building going under restoration on the left side is Teatro della Tosse. See the small map in the upper left corner of the bigger map. The walk takes about 15 minutes or less.

From your hotel to MP-MAIN

From the hotels "around Brignole" (Verdi, Astoria, Viale Sauli, Starhotel, Carletto): on foot reaching Via XX Settembre and then up to the end (10 minutes), MP-MAIN is immediately on the right-hand side; otherwise take any bus going to Via XX Settembre, either from Brignole (first platform away from the station; direction P.Za De Ferrari, opposite to the direction San Martino to DISI) or in Piazza della Vittoria (via Cadorna, next to the garden).

From the hotels "around via XX Settembre" Bristol, Belsoggiorno, Soana: on foot, just following up Via XX Settembre MP-Main is immediately on the right-hand side; 1 to 5 minutes.

From the hotels "around Principe" (Vittoria Orlandini, Savoia, Aquila Reale, Agnello d'Oro, Bellevue, Britannia, Alexander, Europa): take 20, 30, 32, 35, 41 in front of Principe Station.

From Mediterannee (Pegli): take a train to Principe (see above for Principe).

From Novotel: take 20, 30 in front of your hotel.

From Columbus: take 30c (circular) in front of the hotel.

From Ostello: take the Cable train (Funicolare) to Largo Zecca and then cross the road and: take bus number 20, 30, 32, 35, or 41; otherwise simply walk: Via Cairoli, then Via Garibaldi, then Via XXV Aprile to Piazza De Ferrari. Going through the Opera building in front of you (or circumnavigating it to its front) and turning on the left under the porch, you will be at the meeting point. It takes about
10 minutes on foot.

From Cairoli: go to Largo Zecca (see above for Ostello) or walk (see again Ostello)

From Jolly Plaza, Assarotti: on foot, crossing Piazza Corvetto and then continue to Via Vernazza (see the map; 300 meters); about 5 minutes.

From City: on foot just going through the Opera building (or circumnavigating it to its front) and turning on the left under the porch; less than 3 minutes.

HOW TO REACH DISI FROM YOUR HOTEL
(for Satellite Events)

With the exception of the hotels near to Via XX Settembre, you have to take a bus (*).

How to reach DISI from the Meeting Points MP-DISI

(see also the black-and-white map in your bag)

MP-DISI1

Looking at the Blockbusters megastore move few meters to your right and take Via Papigliano which is the small street climbing up to our department (there will be signs indicating ETAPS and the direction to follow); cross the first road you meet (it is Via San Martino). Now you are at DISI2 meeting point, so follow the instruction for DISI2.

MP-DISI2

You are already at the intersection of Via San Martino and Via Papigliano (maybe you have to walk a bit back in the direction you arrived depending on where exactly the bus is stopping); just climb up along Via Papigliano (there will be signs indicating ETAPS and the direction to follow) till you meet a narrow street orthogonal to via Papigliano (it is Via Padre Semeria). In front of you, a bit on your right-hand side, there is the gate to our department. In case of doubts, look at the small map on the right corner of the bigger map.

How to reach the Meeting Points MP-DISI from Brignole and Via XX Settembre

From Brignole Station (Piazza Verdi)

MP-DISI1

By bus 17, 17/, 17//.
All above buses stop at the third platform (direction S.Martino) away from the station. You have to get off the bus near Ospedale San Martino, just in front of a Blockbusters megastore (the meeting point) . It is easy to recognize when you are on corso Gastaldi because it is a very large road which runs in parallel with the railroad .

MP-DISI2

By bus 18 (NOT 18/), 45, 85, 86, 87.
Bus 18 stops at the second platform (direction S.Martino) away from the station, while the other buses have an end stop in the middle of the small garden in front of the station. You have to get off the bus at the second stop in via San Martino.

From Via XX Settembre

MP-DISI2

By bus 44, that starts from Via Dante at the corner with Piazza De Ferrari and goes down in via XX Settembre, where it stops about 30 meters before Ponte Monumentale (the bridge stretching over via XX Settembre). You have to get off the bus at the second stop in via San Martino.

How to reach Brignole and/or Via XX Settembre from your hotel

From the hotels "around Brignole" (Verdi, Astoria, Viale Sauli, Starhotel, Carletto): walk to the Brignole bus stops.

From the hotels "around Principe" (Vittoria Orlandini, Savoia, Aquila Reale, Agnello d'Oro, Bellevue, Britannia, Alexander, Europa):

To Brignole station: take bus 18 (also with any number of /) in front of Principe Station;

Note

To Via XX Settembre: take 20, 30 (NOT 30/), 32, 35, 41 in front of Principe Station

From Novotel:

To Brignole station: take bus 18 (also with any number of /) in front of your hotel

Note

To Via XX Settembre: take 20, 30 in front of your hotel

From Columbus: take 30c (circular) in front of the hotel to Via Dante where you get bus 44 directly to MP-DISI2

From Mediterannee (Pegli): take a train to Brignole

From Ostello: take the Cable train (Funicolare) to Largo Zecca and then cross the road to catch buses coming from Principe:

To Brignole station: take bus 18 (also with any number of /)

Note

To Via XX Settembre: take 20, 30, 32, 35, 41;

From Cairoli: go to Largo Zecca (see above for Ostello)

From Jolly Plaza, Assarotti: take any bus leading to Brignole at the stop in Via Santi Giacomo e Filippo (200 meters to your left around Piazza Corvetto and then passing to the other side with the underway)

From City: take 20, 30 (NOT 30/), 32, 35 from any stop up in Via Roma (100 meter from the hotel) to change in Via XX Settembre (or Via Dante) or simply walk down Via Roma to Piazza De Ferrari where at the corner with via Dante there is the end stop of bus 44.

From the Hotels around via XX Settembre Bristol, Belsoggiorno, Soana: walk to the Via XX Settembre bus stop.
